    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has his contract expiring at the end of June 2025.

The Soweto giants are yet to tie him to a new deal amid pressure to build a strong squad for next season where they are likely to be playing Caf Confederation Cup football.

But Maart seems not worried by his contract situation as the season draws to a close.

    WHAT MAART SAID

“To be honest, you know how social media is, people make up their own things and stuff. I don’t know anything about the contract because I haven’t signed it,” said Maart FARPost.

“For me, wherever the almighty puts you in life, you must accept it because you don’t know if you’ll be playing here or there.

“So wherever the almighty puts me, as a footballer I’ll continue doing what I do best, which is playing football. As I said, wherever the almighty puts me, my decision is that I’ll accept that and continue doing my best. That’s it.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

For someone who has been a regular and a captain, Maart is likely to have his contract renewed.

This is despite him being off form in some games, the same inconsistency that has characterised Chiefs' season.

The Soweto giants might not want to lose him in a central midfield that has Thabo Cele, the injured Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane and Sibongiseni Mthethwa as other options.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAART?

Maart has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to lead Chiefs to victory when they face Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium.

This is after Amakhosi lost 1-0 in the reverse league fixture against the Buccaneers at the beginning of February.
