    WHAT HAPPENED?

Since his move to Mamelodi Sundowns from Stellenbosch, Iqraam Rayners has been a hit, scoring goals at will.

The 29-year-old has already scored six goals and provided an assist in nine Premier Soccer League games he has played. Generally, he has played 17 games for Masandawana across all competitions and scored 13 goals.

It is a good response from a player who was snubbed by SuperSport United after struggling to settle following his move from Stellenbosch, a team he had helped get promotion to the PSL in teh 2017-18 campaign.

Upon his return to Stellies from the Swanky Boys, Rayners rediscovered his form; last season, he finished second in the race for the Golden Boot.

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Ashley du Preez has shared his thoughts on his former teammate.

    WHAT DU PREEZ SAID

“Iqraam Rayners, I have played with him, I know how he likes to score goals and the way he plays, how he’s banging in goals now,” he told iDIski Times.

“I think for me, it’s something any player because he has the experience, I look up to him and want to be how he’s scoring goals now

"Rayners is someone I have my eye on, how he’s scoring goals, myself as a player, I also want that; he’s a good example [for me]," Du Preez continued.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The versatile attacker has further explained how he intends to get more goals for his team.

“It’s about being calm and sometimes as a striker and you make up your mind in front of the box and you do what your mind tells you to do.

“It either works or it doesn’t so for me [to improve my goal scoring], it’s about being more calm [inside the area]," Du Preez concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Du Preez has struggled for consistency at Kaizer Chiefs owing to the different positions he has played.

After joining the Glamour Boys in July 2022 for a reported R10 million, Du Preez has played 69 games for the club but managed just 18 goals and seven assists.

In the ongoing campaign, he has made 10 appearances across all competitions and scored three goals in the process.

    WHAT NEXT?

Du Preez's current deal with Chiefs expires at the end of the ongoing campaign, but the club is reportedly ready to extend it by two years.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is keen on getting an established striker to help his team get goals regularly meaning Du Preez might be played in the wing as opposed to the central striking position.
