Jose Riveiro backed to sign new Orlando Pirates contract - 'Extend maybe for another two years' as Spaniard can 'maybe he can take the treble'

Orlando Pirates have had an impressive start to the season, with only two losses across all competitions, and a strong performance in the CAF Champions League.

Under coach José Riveiro, the club has already claimed a trophy and he has won five trophies in three seasons.

Happy Jele, a club legend with over 400 appearances for Pirates, praised Riveiro’s work at the club, emphasizing his success and pushing for a contract extension to ensure his continued presence.

“I’m definitely sure that he needs to extend. You look at his CV the way he started. No one believed that he’s a great coach, but he showed,” said Jele as reported by iDiski Times.

“They were calling him a plumber before, but he proved them wrong that he’s a good coach.

“In one season he managed to get two trophies, another one, two trophies. In his third season, he managed to get one, so I don’t think there is going to be someone to break that record. So now he’s looking for another one, maybe he can take the treble you never know. It’s a matter of the way they play," he added.

“If they really want it, they can go for it. But for me, coming from Pirates, I wish they can keep him, extend maybe for another two years, and let’s see because he’s proven people wrong that he is a great coach, and we have seen it.”

The 47-year-old has just six months left on his contract. His successful tenure, including several trophies and turning Pirates into a competitive side, has earned him significant praise. Many believe this should be enough to warrant an extension, keeping him at the helm as the club aims to build on its success.

With just six months left on his contract, Riveiro will be eager to add more trophies to his collection. He has already proven his worth by unlocking the potential of young players like Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota. With the league, Champions League, and Nedbank Cup still in play, his work is far from over, but his achievements so far speak volumes about his coaching ability.
