    WHAT HAPPENED?

U.S. international John Tolkin made his third Bundesliga appearance on Sunday as he was named to Holstein Kiel's lineup for the second consecutive time. He started on the left-hand side of a back five, and he combined with another defender to create one of the game's big moments.

With his side down 2-1 just after halftime, Tolkin stepped up to take a long free kick. His delivery was pinpoint, finding the head of center back David Zec, who made no mistake with his finish to make it 2-2, earning Kiel a point in the process.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tolkin's big moment comes as he looks to adjust to life in the Bundesliga. He was thrown right into the fire in his most recent appearance prior to Sunday, starting in a loss to Bayern Munich in a true "Welcome to Europe" moment. His performance on Sunday was much better, as he provided that assist while making seven clearances on the defensive side of the ball.

The fullback, who was originally called into the U.S. Men's National Team's January camp before departing to complete his move to Germany, joined Holstein Kiel from the New York Red Bulls for a reported $3 million fee.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The former New York Red Bull defender is no stranger to assists, having provided 12 during his time in MLS. In addition, he added three more assists in just 10 playoff appearances.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TOLKIN?

Even with the draw, Kiel are 17th in the Bundesliga, five points from safety and one point out of the relegation playoff spot. Up next is a tough match: a visit to third-place Eintracht Frankfurt.
