    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has refuted the rumors suggesting that the club is considering bringing on board Kaizer Chiefs legend Bradley Carnell as a new head coach.

The Citizens have had a dreadful start to the 2024/25 season under Eric Tinkler, and speculation is swirling that Carnell might step in as the club's new mentor.

Nonetheless, Comitis acknowledged being aware of the rumors circulating in the media linking City with Carnell, but he has dismissed them.

    WHAT COMITIS SAID

"No. There is nothing like that about Bradley Carnell being linked to us. I also heard it and saw it two days ago but it's not true. We have a coach. He is contracted to us and we must get going.

"We have to do our best with the coach and the team. We have a job at hand with the coach and the team so that's not true," Comitis told the Siya crew.

"As I have said we have a coach who is still contracted to us and we can't be pressing panic buttons at this stage of the season. It's still too early," he added.

"We have to when it comes to turning things around for better (results) and to do that we all have to work together and we are doing just that right now."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Carnell has been without a club after parting ways with Major Soccer League side St. Louis City in July this year.

Following his departure from the United States' outfit, the Bafana Bafana legend has revealed that he would be happy to return home to coach any PSL club.

On the other hand, the Cape Town-based outfit has accumulated just five points from five matches, with two losses, two draws, and a solitary win to their name.

    WHAT NEXT?

Cape Town City will be looking to improve on their disappointing 13th position in the PSL standings when the season resumes after the Fifa international break.

Tinkler's team is set to host Polokwane City at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday, November 27th.

For Carnell, the search for a new club continues despite reports that a number of PSL clubs have expressed interest in the 46-year-old tactician.
