However, the 29-year-old struggled for form and failed to get enough minutes at Allianz Arena through this season, and is now looking for a move away as he is looking to revive his career.

The Red Devils believe that the Portuguese midfielder could be a target worth chasing, as he would be a low-cost but Premier League-experienced player to add to the faltering United squad.

The Cottagers are conducting a whole host of departures this summer with close to 13 players headed for the exit.
