January signing Glody Lilepo headed in a cross by Gaston Sirino to hand Kaizer Chiefs the lead four minutes into the match in a match played at Athlone Stadium.

The result saw Chiefs completing a league double over Stellenbosch whom they beat 2-1 in the reverse fixture in January.

The Soweto giants are now fourth on the log after Lilepo scored for the first time for Amakhosi.

It was a performance he would hope to replicate in the future and turn himself into a prolific forward.

Following Friday's defeat, Stellenbosch missed an opportunity to climb up the standings and get to position five.

They remain seventh on the standings as they failed to win for a second consecutive tie in the league.

Amakhosi now prepare to host Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup at FNB Stadium on January 15 as they look to build on Friday's victory.

Two days earlier, Stellenbosch welcome Polokwane City in the Nedbank Cup at Danie Craven Stadium in a bid to recover from the recent setback.
