    WHAT HAPPENED?

Given Msimango has been serving Kaizer Chiefs for two seasons after joining the club from TS Galaxy in the 2023/24 season.

In his debut campaign, he played 26 Premier Soccer League matches, but he managed just nine in the last edition owing to competition and injuries.

His latest setback was a groin strain that saw him miss the last couple of weeks of the 2024/25 season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In Msimango's absence, other players rose for the occasion to help the Glamour Boys end their trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.

Upon his return, he will have to prove he is better than Zitha Kwinika, Inacio Miguel, and Rushwin Dortley at the heart of the Glamour Boys' defence.

That is not a problem for him if his recent interview is anything to consider.

    WHAT MSIMANGO SAID

"It feels good, firstly to be back, I went through quite a scary injury. But nothing that I have not experienced before," he opened up to Amakhosi's media team.

"So yeah, it kind of kept me off for two months, but now I am back, training well, recovering, and regaining my strength; so it feels good to be back.

"These medicals are extremely important because they are the benchmark for the season that is to come. To see where you are. To see what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

The Netherlands' pre-season will provide a perfect platform for Msimango to convince coach Nasreddine Nabi that he can regularly deliver.

Amakhosi will be hoping to make an impact in the Premier Soccer League, as well as the Caf Confederation Cup.
