GONE! Kaizer Chiefs release key player after Sabele Radebe and Ranga Chivaviro's earlier departures

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of Edmilson Dove, whose contract has not been renewed.

In their farewell message, Amakhosi praised Dove as one who became an integral part of their team.

"Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June. The Mozambican international, who joined Amakhosi in August 2022 after spending six months with UD Songo in Mozambique, has been an integral part of the team," Chiefs announced.

"During his three seasons with the Glamour Boys, he played a total of 56 official matches, showcasing his talent and dedication on the field as a left-back and a centre-back. As a leader, he wore the captain’s armband on a few occasions and also contributed two goals for Chiefs," the Chiefs' statement added.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

Dove is the fourth player to leave Amakhosi after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Sabele Radebe and Ranga Chivaviro were released earlier, while the Soweto giants opted not to extend Njabulo Blom’s loan deal.

Dove was heavily involved for Chiefs, especially towards the latter stages of last season, and his exit will come as a surprise for many.

The former Cape Town City defender was signed by Arthur Zwane and battled a serious injury when the 2024/25 season began.

The Mozambican's next steps will be closely watched, as his fans and those who adored him as a Glamour Boy would want to know whether he will remain in the PSL or he will choose to go elsewhere.

Amakhosi fans will equally be eager to know who will be brought on board as Dove's replacement.
