    WHAT HAPPENED?

SuperSport United defied the odds to beat Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in the Premier Soccer League game staged at the FNB Stadium.

It was the first time the Swanky Boys had beaten Amakhosi in the PSL by such a margin.

Coach Gavin Hunt has, however, watered down the weight of his team's victory, saying it is just three points that were won.

    WHAT HUNT SAID

"Well, it's three points, we never won a cup, we never won anything tonight, we just got three points," the experienced tactician stated.

"We gotta get ourselves out of the difficult situation we are in. We haven't done well in the league, we know that but it's not for a lack of effort and trying and commitment is all there.

“As I said, we've been in football for a long time and the first signs you'll see is the drop in attitude but the attitude has been fine. Players have been good and sometimes in football you don't get your deserved results.

“I mean the first game we played Chiefs, the 4-0 in the cup, we should have won that game, if you watch that game and the next game we won 1-0, they should have beaten us, Chiefs, in the league.

“So, you tell me about football, that's what happens sometimes. So, we've gotta keep grinding and keep tryna take chances and try to get a combination together. We chop on and change the team every week because of the problems we've had. So, this is pretty much a more settled team in the last three or four games now," Hunt concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite the huge win, SuperSport United remained 12th on the table with 20 points from the 18 PSL games played this season.

The league crown might be away from them, but surely, the Swanky Boys can still work their way to the top positions.

They are in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final where they are scheduled to play the defending champion Orlando Pirates.

It is interesting to see how the morale-boosting win over Amakhosi will impact his players.
