    WHAT HAPPENED?

South African coach Rhulani Mokwena signed Thembinkosi Lorch from Orlando Pirates in the mid-2023/24 season.

However, he struggled for game time when the 38-year-old parted ways with the Brazilians prior to the 2024/25 campaign.

The duo re-united at Wydad Athletic Club when Mokwena took over; he signed 'Nyoso' on a loan deal from former club.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

While with the Botola Pro League outfit, Lorch has rediscovered his form and has established himself as one of the key players.

At the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, the former Bucs man shone despite Wydad's early exit, where they lost all their group matches.

His development coach, Morena Ramoreboli, who is the current coach for the Botswana national team, has now warned Lorch against considering Masandawana's return, insisting it is not an option.

    WHAT RAMOREBOLI SAID

“I think I have watched a couple of matches so far from the Moroccan Premier League. If I were to advise him, he must continue to play there because the league’s intensity and the environment always keep him working hard, and the supporters there always want to win,” Ramoreboli said as quoted by FARPost.

“So, I think it’s a good environment for him. However, I would say that if he comes back to SA, he should join a team where he will compete and win trophies. That’s one part I think will help him.

“I have watched him play [in Morocco], and I believe that he is a winner. So, he needs to go to an environment where he will win. If he comes back home, he should join a team that will help him achieve greater things," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

After his exploits, Wydad might opt against letting him go and renegotiate with Masandawana about a longer deal.

Lorch, surely, will want a team where he is guaranteed play time to force his way into the Bafana Bafana team and most probably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
