Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota had attracted interest from a Moroccan club before being admitted to a rehabilitation centre in South Africa.
This was revealed by Watson Luandi, CEO of the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre in Limpopo. Luandi confirmed that Sekgota is one of three players currently undergoing treatment at the facility, alongside former Bafana Bafana midfielder Lerato Chabangu and Yamkela Phalane.

"Firstly, let me give acknowledgment to NKRL foundation that does the work of recognising the soccer players who are in need of help. Our passion is to help these guys so that they can regain their dignity on and off the field. While on that, let me stress this point, Kgaogelo was not using drugs. He is only using Marijuana which is easy to rehabilitate," Luandi told Soccer Laduma's Siya crew.
"My job is to help them find themselves and rewriting their story. So it’s up to the patient after they finish the program if they are willing to go back to soccer. As the centre we can’t decide for them, but so far Sekgota, as well as the other players who are here, are doing very well and they will be ready to be reintegrated to society soon.
"There is a team that he is contracted to presently, so I think they are the best to answer that question, but we believe that there is a club in Morocco that has previously shown interest in the player and that's why the family wants him to get his life back as he is still young,” he concluded.

Sekgota, who made his Bafana Bafana debut in the 2019 COSAFA Cup against Uganda, was released by Chiefs in August 2023. He then signed with Stellenbosch FC.
He currently plies his trade at Upington City, a club that faced a tough 2024/25 National First Division campaign, narrowly escaping relegation in the closing stages of the season.
