    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Manchester United playmaker, who is hoping to help the Lionesses defend their European Championship crown this summer, still has plenty of football left in her at 25 years of age. She would like to grace a home World Cup in 2035.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Beyond that point, plans are being put in place for a life away from the pitch. Toone already fronts ‘The Tooney and Russo Show’ podcast alongside international team-mate Alessia Russo, while the launch of her ET7 brand in 2024 saw her become the first English women’s football player to trademark her own name.

    THE GOSSIP

While there will be plenty of work commitments to contend with once hitting retirement, Toone also intends to have some fun. There is every chance that she will look to follow ex-England colleague Jill Scott into the Australian jungle.

  • WHAT ELLA TOONE SAID

Toone has told The Telegraph: “I wanna go on I’m a Celeb. I don’t think I’ll be as good as Jill, who won it, but I’ve always said it. When I was younger, it was Blue Peter and I’m a Celeb… and Total Wipeout. I did Blue Peter the other day and I was over the moon getting my Blue Peter badge. It actually felt better than winning the Euros!”

    TELL ME MORE

Quizzed on what her worst bushtucker trial would entail, Toone went on to say: “If I tell you and then I go on it and they make me do it! The drinking challenges… I can’t even swallow a tablet without gagging. Imagine swallowing some of that stuff.”

She added when asked if she could contend with spiders and other creepy crawlies: “Well… I’m probably not sure, maybe one, not a thousand. I think I’d be struggling all round to be honest!”

  • WHAT NEXT?

Toone has plenty of time in which to ready herself for those challenges. For now, her focus is locked on finishing the WSL season as positively as possible and challenging for back-to-back FA Cup triumphs when facing Chelsea in the final of that competition on May 18.
