Declan Rice injury a bigger blow to Arsenal than dropped derby points: Winners & losers as Gunners star forced off while Son Heung-min and James Maddison keep Spurs rolling

Watching Bukayo Saka mimic his iconic darts celebration after Arsenal's 26th-minute opener clearly lit a fire in James Maddison's belly. As soon as his side fell behind he was, more than any other Spurs' player, the one attempting to drag Tottenham back into the contest.

And, just before the break, he got his reward. After outmuscling celebration-thief Saka, he darted down to the byline and laid one on a plate for Son Heung-min to make it 1-1.

When Maddison was needed to help restore parity in the second half, he did not go hiding. This time, his harrying led to Jorginho giving the ball away cheaply. Presented with acres of space to run into, Maddison slipped in Son again, who made no mistake from close range.

A few seasons back, it was reported that Arsenal were considering signing Maddison from Leicester City, before opting for Martin Odegaard. The Gunners certainly won't feel short-changed by their decision to recruit their now skipper, but Maddison was head and shoulders above his playmaking counterpart on Sunday.

There's only one way for him to celebrate: head down to a Toby Carvery with his family and dominate proceedings!

Cristian Romero is a magnet for controversy, but even by his own standards, this was quite the crazy afternoon.

In the first half, he absentmindedly stuck a leg out at Saka's shot. The replay revealed the magnitude of this error, with the ball destined to sail wide if it wasn't for the Argentine's ill-judged intervention. Things did not get any better after the break either.

Whether you agree with the current iteration of the handball law or not - you definitely shouldn't, by the way - history has taught us that flailing your limbs away from your body is a recipe for disaster. Romero became the latest case study when VAR intervened to award a penalty against him in the 54th minute - compounding a miserable afternoon for him personally.

With everything Son touches turning to gold as of late, it's easy to forget what a miserable campaign he endured last season. With his confidence likely shattered, Postecoglou faced a tough task getting him back firing, but since the Aussie handed him the captain's armband, he's been sensational.

Against Arsenal, Son took his first goal so well. A few centimetres either side of where he put the ball and it simply does not go in. His second was coolly taken too, with his side-footed finish creeping towards the net in immensely satisfying fashion.

After the ball crossed the line, Son immediately dashed over to the travelling Tottenham fans. And, after he and Maddison had treated the white half of north London to a highly-choreographed celebration, the South Korean lingered a few moments longer to whip the supporters into a frenzy. This is Son's team now, and he's going to enjoy moments like this.

Jorginho has not really found his place at Arsenal since making a surprise move from Chelsea last January, and the big-money arrival of Declan Rice in the summer was only ever going to further decrease his chances of regular playing time.

Against Tottenham, he was awarded a rare chance to impress when the England international was withdrawn at the break after picking up a minor knock. And Jorginho went on to prove that playing at the top level without being given the chance to get match sharp beforehand can be pretty challenging. Around 10 minutes after his half-time introduction, he took too many touches in midfield, allowing Maddison to steal in and set up Son.

In his defence, he recovered pretty well, but that's consolation when your error costs the team victory in the North London Derby. At least his manager was extremely supportive after the game, saying: "I love him. We all love him."

Away from all the drama in north London, a few hundred miles north, Arteta's former boss will have greeted this draw with a slight smile. It's very, very early days of course, but in the opening weeks of the season, Arsenal and Tottenham had emerged as two of the strongest contenders for the Premier League title this season, alongside Liverpool and Brighton.

A point apiece was the best possible outcome for Pep Guardiola and Co, with holders Manchester City already four points clear of both north London clubs after just six games. As expected, after the match, Arteta insisted he and his players are not thinking about such matters. But it's clearly a far-from-ideal situation to be in at this stage.

In his post-match press conference, Arteta confirmed Arsenal fans' worst fears. Namely, Rice's half-time substitution had indeed been due to a back injury, which will now need to be "assessed" to determine its severity. The news is the latest in a long line of blows on the injury front, which started when Jurrien Timber suffered an ACL injury during his very first game as a Arsenal player.

In truth, you could tell Rice wasn't able to perform to his best in the first half. He was a little late to his tackles, misplaced a pass or two and looked half a yard off the pace or out of position at times.

And without Rice playing as well as he has recently, Arsenal were also not quite at their best. The midfielder is already vital to the way Arteta wants his team to play this season - and the Spaniard will be keeping everything crossed that his injury is a minor one, particularly with Thomas Partey still out.
