From a promising start to a dip in form

Kaizer Chiefs have not won their last three Premier Soccer League matches as they have lost form after a promising start to the season.

Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze has identified what he thinks is their biggest problem following a dip in form.

They are fifth on the PSL table with 15 points, six less than league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two games more.

Kaze talks about Chiefs' big problem

“The situations are a bit different,” said Kaze as per Phakaaathi.
“A few weeks go we were getting into the final third but the last pass and movements were not good enough. In the last two games, against Kabuscorp and AmaZulu, the passes and movement are there, it is just a question of not scoring.
“Yesterday [Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at home to AmaZulu] we had 23 shots and eight on target. I believe if we can keep the momentum and keep our focus the goals are going to come soon.”

Eight strikers, but still blunt upfront

With Chiefs having eight forwards in their squad, expectations were high that problems up front would be a thing of the past.

But they still continue struggling despite having Glody Lilepo, Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Luke Baartman, Tashreeq Morris, Wandile Duba, Ashley du Preez and Flavio Silva, although some are yet to play this season.

That puts into question whether the Soweto giants just have a collection of strikers or place emphasis on their forwards being prolific.

    Stellenbosch test

The only time Chiefs scored more than two goals in a match was against Stellenbosch in their league opener in August.

Interestingly, they now face the same opponents in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 away on Sunday, and it is to be seen if they will again find the back of the net more than once in that match.
