'Football isn't a fairytale' - Borussia Dortmund issue heartfelt message to supporters after Champions League final disappointment against Real Madrid

Dortmund were beaten 2-0 at Wembley and will be ruing a string of missed chances in the first-half before Madrid were able to show their true class. The Dortmund fans offered fiery and racuous support throughout the 90 minutes and the club were keen to thank their 'Yellow Wonderwall' for their efforts in inspiring the team.

Posting on X, the club said: "Football isn’t a fairytale and there aren’t always happy endings. Our story continues, and we couldn’t do it without your support. Our Yellow Wonderwall through it all. Thank you💛"

There was no fairytale ending for Dortmund or their club captain and legend, Marco Reus. In his last ever game for the club, Reus lost his second Champions League final of his career - both at Wembley. The German winger has been hampered with injury and blighted by team-mates leaving the club throughout his tenure, but his commitment to Dortmund has written his name into footballing folklore.

After finishing fifth, Dortmund have just about scraped into next season's Champions League. Edin Terzic's team will be proud of their deep run into the tournament but will be aiming to improve their league standing next term. Bayer Leverkusen's unlikely Bundesliga title will also have Dortmund dreaming of replicating the feat.
