    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs played Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Friday night.

Glody Lilepo scored the lone goal of the match to help the Glamour Boys complete a double over the Cape Winelands side after a 2-1 win in the first round.

After the win, Amakhosi are now fourth on the Premier Soccer League table.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs are currently on 25 points after playing 17 games, 14 points less than leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have played just 14 matches in the ongoing campaign.

With Amakhosi's struggles, some may feel the best the team can do is finish inside the top positions to get the Caf competition ticket.

However, the club's Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, is convinced that Nasreddine Nabi's outfit can still challenge Sundowns and Pirates for the crown.

He insists the team is gelling after the signing of Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris, and Glody Lilepo in the concluded local winter transfer window.

    WHAT BOBBY SAID

“It’s a journey, we know it is, but we’re cooking. It’s a process. Give it patience and time,” he said on SuperSportTV.

“To build it takes time, it’s not an overnight success. We are there, the league is not over yet.  Let’s see how they go the whole season. It’s early days. But it’s because why we signed them, there is a reason; quality is what we wanted.

“To help the young boys with experience and quality, that’s what we wanted to do. The jersey is very heavy.

"But we do it for these people, they pack the stadium, they enjoy the game, we do it for them," Bobby concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

After the win over Stellies, Amakhosi's main focus will be on the Nedbank Cup assignment.

Realistically, this looks like a good chance of ending the decade-long trophy drought as opposed to the Premier Soccer League.

A win against Chippa United at the FNB Stadium will seal progress to the quarter-final.
