'Bet on yourself' - Christian Pulisic given transfer advice by USMNT legend amid Liverpool & Man Utd links as he's issued 'are you going to play' warning

The United States international has enjoyed another welcome rise to prominence at club level since leaving Chelsea for San Siro in the summer of 2023. Pulisic has always been lauded as ‘Captain America’ in his homeland, but needed a change of scenery domestically in order to rekindle a fading spark.

He has done just that in Italy, with a number of impressive personal bests seeing him become a talismanic presence for Serie A heavyweights. With Milan struggling for consistency as a collective, there have been suggestions that Pulisic could be lured back to the Premier League – with Liverpool said to be keen as they wait on a contract extension decision from Egyptian king Mohamed Salah, while Manchester United are also being credited with interest.

Quizzed on the advice that he would give to Pulisic, with the riches on offer in England often difficult to ignore, legendary former USMNT goalkeeper Kasey Keller – speaking in association with William Hill Vegas – told GOAL: “I was always somebody that loved betting on myself. I loved the different experiences. It could have been really easy for me to stay in England my whole career. I loved the idea of being the first American to play in La Liga and to have the experience.

“Somebody said when I played in the Nou Camp, it was 17 years before another American played there – and that was Christian playing for Dortmund in the Champions League. I would never tell a player not to go and try something different. But then there is another piece of me that thinks what would it have been like if I had been at one club for 10 years and had that experience – like those team-mates that have been somewhere for so long and have that establishment.”

Keller added on the future poser that Pulisic may soon face: “I don’t know if there is a right answer or a wrong answer. It’s just what Christian feels at that time. If it’s right for his team and him to make a move, I would be 100 per cent supportive as well if he was like ‘this is a pretty good situation I have got at AC Milan so we’re going to stay with this for a while’.

“There is no right answer, there is no wrong answer. The key to any answer is are you going to play? You still have to do it. Even if the manager says to you ‘you’re my guy’, if you play badly then you aren’t going to stay there. You have to bet on yourself at times, but it’s also really hard to leave a good situation.”

Pulisic, who is preparing to return to action after recovering from a slight knock, has registered 23 goals for Milan through 70 appearances. The Rossoneri would be reluctant sellers if he were to move on, with their intention being to tie the American down on fresh terms.
