    TELL ME MORE

Bayern were slow to get out of the traps, and Werder created the best chances of the first half, as Manuel Neuer saved well to deny Mitchell Weiser while Justin Njimah had a goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

Things did not improve all that much after the break for the home side, either, and they fell behind on the hour mark as wing-back Weiser left Alphonso Davies for dead before powering a shot past Neuer at his near post.

Thomas Tuchel threw on a number of forwards in search of an equaliser, and though teenage substitute Mathys Tel went close on three occasions late on, they could not find the opening they needed to salvage what would have been an underserved point.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Before this game, Bayern had scored in 65 successive Bundesliga home games, a run stretching back to February 2020. This was also Werder's first win over Bayern in any competition since 2008 - a run which had lasted 32 matches.

  • THE MVP

Having only made 21 appearances for Bayern during his time with the club as a youngster, this was almost certainly the biggest impact Weiser has had on the Bavarians during his career. His stunning solo goal proved to be the winner, and capped a superb performance from the right-wing-back.

He proved a constant attacking outlet for Werder, and almost found the net in the first half when his deflected shot forced Neuer into a super save. Defensively, meanwhile, he barely put a foot wrong as the visitors held firm and kept Bayern from creating any clear-cut chances.

    THE BIG LOSER

He remains on pace to break the record for the most goals in a single Bundesliga campaign, but on Sunday, Kane was barely involved as Bayern failed to create anything of note for the England captain.

He managed just seven touches in the first half, and though he was slightly more involved after the break, he couldn't get anything going as he cut a more and more frustrated figure. His best chance came when he fired over from 20 yards, with the home side unable to provide him with any service inside the penalty area.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

Defeat leaves Bayern seven points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and Tuchel will know his team cannot afford to drop anymore points at home to Union Berlin on Wednesday in what is their game in hand on Xabi Alonso's team.
