    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Just a few days ago, Broos named his squad that will take part in the June friendlies.

Understandably, players from Mamelodi Sundowns were left out because the Premier Soccer League champions are set for the second leg of the Caf Champions League final against Pyramids. Thereafter, Masandawana will shift focus to the Fifa Club World Cup that will begin on June 14.

Interestingly, Broos included Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, Yusuf Maart, and Mduduzi Shabalala in his preliminary 41-man squad. In his previous squad, no player featured in the final list that played in the March 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Mbekezeli Mbokazi from Orlando Pirates and Shandre Campbell of Club Brugge KV were included, although they were not part of the team that played and won the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title.
