    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates legend Benedict 'Tso' Vilakazi has explained why a move back to Mamelodi Sundowns may work against Thembinkosi Lorch.

The Bafana Bafana forward served Wydad AC on loan last season and could return to the Premier Soccer League defending champions if the Moroccan giants let him go.

However, Vilakazi, a former Sundowns star, believes Lorch should not return to Masandawana because he will not fit coach Miguel Cardoso's playing style.

    WHAT VILAKAZI SAID

"I just feel sorry for him (Lorch) that Wydad want to sign him permanently and Sundowns... You know, sometimes teams come with their own things. I hope they find a solution because I don't see that he can play under (Miguel) Cardoso," Vilakazi told Omniaudioafrica YouTube Channel.
"Looking at how Cardoso wants to play, especially with players on the wings, he's not a fan of those players. If Sundowns keep Lorch, I think it's going to be a disadvantage for Lorch, because he's not going to play according to his strengths," he added.
"At Wydad, he has found his feet; he's showing us who 'Nyoso' is. He's a wide player who can also come inside at Wydad; he's got a bit of freedom. Right now at Sundowns, I'm crying at how Cardoso is playing Ribeiro wide, asking him to track back. Ribeiro is not that type of player. Lorch has found his feet and is more confident at Wydad," Vilakazi concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reports have emerged that Wydad have submitted a bid to sign Lorch on a permanent deal. Talks are said to be advancing well between Sundowns and the Moroccan heavyweights, and a breakthrough involving the forward is said to be imminent.

Lorch joined Wydad for the second half of the 2024/25 season and impressed. He was one of the standout performers for the African giants during the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

    WHAT NEXT FOR LORCH?

What now remains is to see whether the 32-year-old will remain with Wydad or he will return to PSL before the new season begins.

His compatriot, Cassius Mailula, has left Wydad already.
