AFPTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Griezmann is reportedly eager to stay at the Metropolitano for another season. While he can make that decision independently, the veteran World Cup winner is keen to avoid causing any issues for the club. Griezmann plans to meet with the Atletico higher-ups to discuss his future, ready to accept a potential departure if the club feels it's the best move this summer.
With Los Colchoneros potentially saving significantly on his salary, the club may look to move him on if they don't see him as a key contributor. Already, Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth are set to lead the attack next season. It's unclear whether Griezmann would accept a reduced role as a squad player who could make the difference from the bench.
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR ANTOINE GRIEZMANN?
Griezmann is having a fine season, having scored 16 times and registered seven assists in 42 games across all competitions. Diego Simeone will be hoping to count on his form and experience in Atletico's upcoming fixture, in which they will face Espanyol on Saturday, March 29. Simeone's men are currently third in La Liga, four points behind rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the table.
