Tottenham's loss to Chelsea on Thursday night dealt a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/video-ange-postecoglu-rages-tottenham-players-spurs-concede-another-set-piece-goal-chelsea/blt42ffa926787fee33" target="_blank">significant blow to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League</a>. WHAT HAPPENED?

This defeat compounded Tottenham's recent woes, as it was their second consecutive London derby loss following a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/arsenal-player-ratings-tottenham-kai-havertz-david-raya/blt2d88c7c279080963" target="_blank">home defeat against Arsenal</a> the previous weekend. Now they have lost three matches in a row and Postecoglou acknowledged the need to take responsibility for his team's poor performance.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Postecoglou said: "It wasn't good enough and I have to take responsibility for that, it is on me. I am the manager and I am the one putting them out there and it was not good enough. When we put in a performance like we did in the first half it meant my message wasn't getting through."However, the Aussie lost his cool when further pressed about what message he particularly tried to get across to his players."Come on mate, we didn't play well, do you want me to write you a dossier of where it went wrong?" he asked. "I feel like we've lost a bit of belief and conviction in our football and that is on me to change that. It wasn't about conceding the [first] goal, it was our approach to playing football and we were nowhere near good enough. That is on me."We've been in a bit of a grind for a while now, that is part of our challenge and part of our growth. We have to go out there and perform and sometimes you have to grind out. We were poor today."

WHAT POSTECOGLOU SAID

Tottenham's season had started promisingly under Postecoglou, with an unbeaten run in their opening ten league games. However, their momentum was halted by Chelsea, who handed them their first defeat of the season in a 4-1 loss. And the latest 2-0 win, helped Chelsea do the league double over their crosstown rivals.

Looking ahead, Tottenham will aim to regroup as they prepare for a challenging fixture against Liverpool at Anfield. Postecoglou will be keen to avoid further setbacks and will undoubtedly be working to rally his team to avoid extending their losing streak, with the hope of reclaiming their winning form and revitalizing their pursuit of a top-four finish. Notably, Tottenham haven't lost four successive league games since 2002-03 and Postecoglou should be desperate to prevent that from happening again under his watch.
