    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have been held to a 0-0 draw by Las Palmas in their third pre-season game held at Marbella Football Centre on Thursday.

The Sea Robbers showed determination from the first minutes, pressed Las Palmas and won a corner in the third minute. A move between Deon Hotto and Tshegofatso Mabasa resulted in the first corner of the game, but the latter headed wide when he connected to the set piece delivered into the penalty box.

In the 16th minute, Pirates won a free kick, which Kabelo Dlamini, after some consultation with Relebohile Mofokeng, delivered, but he sent his effort wide.

Five minutes later, Bucs won another free-kick, and this time around, Dlamini was more precise in his delivery, but he was denied by the crossbar.

Pirates started the second half as determined as they did in the first half and won a free kick in the 49th minute. Nkosinathi Sibisi managed to connect to Patrick Maswanganyi’s delivery, but the defender headed wide, wasting another chance.

Sipho Chaine did not last long on the pitch, as he was sent off for handling the ball outside the box. Consequently, Melusi Buthelezi was brought on to take charge of the goalkeeper duties.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is still looking for the first win since he took over as Jose Riveiro's successor.

Pirates were beaten 2-0 by English side Bolton Wanderers in their pre-season opening game. In the second match, a goal by Relebohile Mofokeng helped the Soweto giants avoid a loss as they claimed a 1-1 draw against Pafos FC.
