    What is the secret?

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has revealed what has helped the Premier Soccer League heavyweights record eight straight wins across all competitions.

The former Marumo Gallants tactician has listed down the trust he has from Bucs' hierarchy as one of the main reasons why the club is on a long winning run.

    Ouaddou reveals Bucs' winning strategy

“I didn’t change anything; I just trusted the work I’m doing, the values I put into my work, the love I put into my job, the love I give my players – and what is important as well is the trust of my club, because without trust of your management, the board, it’s difficult,” Ouaddou said, as per iDiski Times.

“So, I thank them for that, for the trust, so yeah – we had many conversations with the players, we had individual talks, just to give them trust and show them exactly how I want to play and what my expectations are when we’re attacking, defending, transitioning, and doing set pieces."

    Joint effort

The Moroccan said what they have achieved so far is because everyone at the club - from the administration, the technical bench and the playing unit - is doing their job well.

“And like I told you – I have a fantastic team around me, South African staff, a lot of good competencies – I'm not working alone," he stated.

"I give credit all the time to my South African [technical team]. This work is not just the coach; don’t forget we have many departments in this club."

“Credit has to be given to my players, the medical department, the performance [analysts] and technical staff and the management – it’s teamwork, and it’s not finished; we have a long season with many targets, but I’m happy with what we have achieved now.”

Winning run despite poor league start

Pirates started this season with a win over Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final duel, but their PSL start was poor; Bucs suffered back-to-back defeats to Sekhukhune United and Gallants.

This piled more pressure on Ouaddou, who held his nerves and saw off Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final before beating Stellenbosch in the final.

Defending the MTN8 Cup was not only an on-pitch achievement but also historical, as Pirates became the first club to win the domestic competition on four straight occasions.

In the league, the Sea Robbers are on a four-match winning run, and in the Champions League, the Soweto giants advanced to the second preliminary round after beating Lioli FC in the initial phase.
