France loom as the green and gold's first test in Russia when they meet on June 16 and though Didier Deschamp's side cruised to a 3-1 victory over Italy on Friday, the coach wasn't entirely pleased with what he saw.
"We have to keep the team’s enthusiasm and ambition up," Deschamps said post-game.
"We don’t do everything perfectly yet, but for the moment it is satisfactory.
"We allowed Italy more scoring opportunities in the second half, but we also have this ability to go on rapid counters and create many chances going forward."
The French next meet the United States on June 10 before facing off against Australia on June 16 in Kazan.
Elsewhere, Denmark laboured to a goalless draw with Sweden on Saturday in a game marked by the absence of Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.
Widely regarded as the man who will be at the heart of the Danes World Cup campaign, Eriksen was missing in action with his wife expecting their first child.
Though he will be in the thick of the action in Russia, Denmark's showing against Sweden suggests that if the Socceroos can shut down Erisken, they are well within a shot of an upset.
It's something the Swedes themselves should have had with striker Isaac Kiese-Thelin spooning a late chance over the bar.
Last but not least, Peru powered to a 2-0 win over Scotland on Wednesday putting in an ominous attacking display.
Having qualified for the World Cup after a play-off win over New Zealand, the Peruvians are eager to mark their return to the tournament with some success and have been boosted with captain Paolo Guerrero ultimately cleared to play in Russia after a drawn out drug appeals process.
Peru looked sharp against the Scots and after a first-half penalty, sealed the result with a fine team goal that started with some passing well within their own half.
