Let GOAL give you the lowdown on how you could still be sitting riveted to your seat in the Big Apple during the US Open Finals weekend.
The US Open has proved to be one of the most unpredictable Grand Slams of the annual four and a men’s singles champion hasn’t successfully defended the crown since Roger Federer sealed his 5th win on the spin in New York back in 2008. In last year’s final, Jannik Sinner beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.
It was the third US Open men’s final in four years to be won in straight sets. 2024 would start and end on a high for Sinner, who won his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and backed it up by claiming the US Open title. The Italian maintained his momentum by reaching his fourth consecutive Grand Slam final when winning at Wimbledon in July.
Despite losing in straight sets to Sinner in last year’s US Open final, Taylor Fritz had gone where no other American men’s player had been for almost 20 years. Astonishingly, before the 2024 edition, there hadn’t been a homegrown player to cheer on in the men’s singles final since Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer in 2006.
Three years before that defeat, A-Rod had been the darling of the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, after beating Carlos Alcaraz’s current coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, to claim the crown. That 2003 success was the last time an American man topped the podium at the US Open.

It’s not only the men’s singles competition that has proved hard to call at recent US Opens; the same unpredictable trend applies to the women’s singles event, with nine different winners lifting the Tiffany and Co. silver trophy aloft in the past ten years. Serena Williams was the last woman to go back-to-back when winning her sixth and last US Open crown in 2014. Last year, American dreams were crushed before Fritz’s loss with Jessica Pegula suffering defeat against Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s final. Pegula failed to follow in her fellow countrywoman's footsteps, as twelve months earlier, Coco Gauff had beaten Sabalenka to seal her first major title.
We can expect plenty of high-class tennis from the US Open over the coming days, but how much can fans expect to pay for a ticket during the Finals weekend? Let GOAL bring you all the vital information you need if you are still aiming to make it to New York to see the curtain-closing action unfold.

The US Open has been staged annually at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre since 1978. It is located within Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City. The facility features 22 courts within its 46.5 acres and an additional 12 courts in the adjoining park.
The complex's three stadiums are among the largest tennis stadiums in the world; Arthur Ashe Stadium tops the global list with a capacity of 23,200. The Tennis Center is open to the public for play, except during the US Open, junior, and wood-racket competitions.
Formerly called the USTA National Tennis Center, the facility was renamed in 2006 in honour of Billie Jean King, who won the US Open on four occasions.
