Roar set unwanted A-League record as Fowler watches on

A horrible season for Brisbane managed to get worse in their final game

A 5-3 defeat to Adelaide United has seen Brisbane Roar set an A-League record for most goals conceded in a single season.

The Roar have ended the 2018/19 season conceding 71 goals across 27 games - one more than Central Coast Mariners let in during their torrid 2015/16 campaign.

New Brisbane coach Robbie Fowler was in the stands at Suncorp Stadium as he saw Roar twice squander the lead against United before two late goals secured the Reds a vital win.

Victory for Marco Kurz's side has secured them fourth spot on the A-League ladder and means they'll host an elimination final next week.

Roar meanwhile end their season in ninth and with an unwanted record to their name after conceding a stunning 11 goals in their last two games.

Defensively frail, Brisbane were able to find some solace in attack this season with their 38 goals scored a solid return considering just how often they were picking the ball out of the back of their own net.

Injuries and mid-season departures played a big part on Roar's horror season with retiring captain Matt McKay regularly drafted into defence.
