The England international is entering a crucial stage of his career and could be tempted by a move away if he isn't given more playing time at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal have not yet opened contract negotiations with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain despite Arsene Wenger claiming they had, says The Mirror.

The Gunners boss said last week that the club had begun talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain and his representatives, with the player having just 18 months left on his current contract.

However, a report in The Mirror says that the player has yet to hear from the club over contract talks, which has only added to his growing frustration.

The 23-year-old has scored six times this season in his most productive spell since joining from Southampton five years ago, but is still by no means a regular starter at the Emirates.

As he enters what could be the prime of his career, Oxlade-Chamberlain is frustrated that he is neither regularly starting games nor getting the full 90 minutes when he does play, and several big clubs in the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe would be interested in signing him.

It's just the latest contract saga for Wenger to deal with as Arsenal have also let star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez enter the final 18 months of their contracts and it remains to be seen if the Gunners will stump up the cash to answer their huge wage demands.

Having to also commit to a big contract for Oxlade-Chamberlain may prove a step too far for the club and could be a stumbling block for both parties if or when new contract talks eventually begin.
