Ghana-target Luckassen responds to PSV Eindhoven criticisms

PSV Eindhoven defender Derrick Luckassen is keeping his head above water in the wake of the club’s disappointing start to the season.

The Red and Whites lost both home and away to Croatian side Osijek in the Uefa Europa League playoffs and suffered their first defeat of the Dutch topflight by a 2-0 reversal to Heerenveen on Sunday.

Luckassen featured in two of the three games and has consequently not been spared his fair share of backlash.

“Players do not need any criticism to realize they did not perform well,” the centre-back told Voetbal International.

“I know very well that what we showed against Osijek and Heerenveen was not good enough.

“If you find me bad, fine man. I see myself good. I have confidence in myself and listen to the people who are doing it.”

As PSV host defending champions Feyenoord on matchday five of the Eredivisie on Sunday, Luckassen remains confident in his outfit’s chances at Philips Stadion.

“That will be a nice clash,” said, the 22-year-old.

“It is nice that they will be coming to visit, then we can take a revenge.

“Heerenveen [loss] is just one moment of the season and as far as I’m concerned an accident.

“To get the title, I feel that’s important to the club, the fans and us. We’re going to beat them.”

Luckassen, who joined PSV from AZ Alkmaar in July, has three appearances to his name so far this season.
