Al Masry have a chance to go top of Group B on Sunday if they beat Moroccan visitors RSB Berkane at Port Said Stadium.
But with seven points from three matches, Berkane enjoy a two-point gap at the top and victory would send them through to the last eight.
Egypt great and Al Masry coach Hossam Hassan also knows very well that a win would throw his side in control of the group although with a slim one-point lead.
Having forced a 0-0 draw in their visit to Berkane in the reverse fixture last week, chances of assuming top spot is not far-fetched for Al Masry.
It was the Egyptians who stopped Berkane’s 100 percent winning record in that draw.
Hassan’s men will also fancy their chances against a Berkane side who last week seemed to struggle in the absence of former star striker Ayoub El-Kaabi, who recently moved to China.
Al Masry winger Islam Issa Ateya and forward Mohamed Grendo have their shoulders under the weight of hopes for goals, especially with Burkinabe striker Aristide Bance is still out injured.
Both Al Masry and Berkane are still unbeaten so far in this campaign after three games, and Sunday’s showdown could have one of the sides’ jinx broken.
However, what's inspiring for both the North Africans is that whoever loses will remain in the top-two unless if third-placed Al Hilal beat UD Songo with a very big margin in the event that Al Masry lose.
Another Group B battle will be raging in Mozambique where basement side Songo are in a desperate bid to save their campaign.
The Mozambicans have just one point, having conceded a whopping six goals in three matches.
The fact that Songo were beaten 2-0 by Berkane at home on matchday two could be encouraging for Al Hilal, who might now see Ferroviario Stadium as a fortress.
It would be the battle of the strugglers as Al Hilal are also yet to taste victory but are a point better than Songo whom they drew 2-2 with in Sudan last week.
