    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs ended their decade-long trophy drought in the 2024/25 campaign with a Nedbank Cup triumph.

However, for the second time in a row, they failed to make the MTN8 competition as they finished ninth in the Premier Soccer League.

It wasn't a good show for a club that commands a huge following in Mzansi.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The management was determined to make things right this season, especially after the club also qualified for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

It explains the 11 players that they signed, with the majority having massive experience domestically and abroad.

The recently concluded transfer window has been one of the best ones for the club, owing to the calibre of the players added.

Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has explained the huge number of players signed and how it took the management time to get it right.

    WHAT MOTAUNG JR. SAID

"It has always been about creating cohesion in the playing group. From our side, there were specific positions we wanted to reinforce given our assessment of last season," he told the media.

"You can never solve all your problems in one transfer window, but we have made meaningful strides in terms of bridging the technical quality.

"The next five-year plan is for us to compete on all fronts, and not just domestically," Motaung Jr. concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs have started the season quite well; they are third on the Premier Soccer League table and in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The signed players have to work on the club's consistency at the top level.

Some new faces are expected to make their debut on Wednesday as Amakhosi host AmaZulu in the league outing.
