Wrexham's trophy hunt continues! Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney's team reach next round of EFL Trophy with late win against Crewe

In a closely fought encounter at the SToK Racecourse Ground, the Red Dragons had the last laugh as Aaron James scored a late winner to send his team to the round of 16 of the EFL Trophy. Paul Mullin picked up a loose ball in the opponent's half and floated a cross inside the box. James had enough space to jump in the air found the back of the net with a header.

With the victory over Crewe, the Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney-owned club took a step forward towards their dream of adding a second trophy to the club's cabinet during their reign. Since the Hollywood duo took charge of the club, they have won only one title which was winning the National League in the 2022-23 season.

Wrexham's last triumph in a cup competition came way back in 2012-13 when they defeated Grimsby Town in the final to lift their only FA Trophy to date.

Phil Parkinson's side will be back in action this weekend as they take on Cambridge United in a League One clash on Saturday at home. The Red Dragons, who are on a four-game winning streak in the league, are currently tied on points with leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
