'Doesn't look good' - Tom Brady accused of harming Wayne Rooney's job prospects with critical comments about work ethic at Birmingham

In the 'Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues' documentary, NFL icon Brady raised doubts about Rooney's suitability as the club's manager - something that turned out to be right as he lasted just 83 days in charge. Now, former Liverpool player Didi Hamann has taken a swipe at the seven-time Super Bowl winner for his inconsiderate and potentially damaging comments. 

He told Casino Sites: "When you do these documentaries, there will be people within the club who come out of it worse off, whether it's a player, manager, or physio, because it's all out in the open. I think it's a tricky thing because it's very hard for the people in charge to look good or get credit for what they do. I've seen that clip with Tom Brady in the car when he talked about Rooney. I can't comment on Wayne Rooney's work ethic. But when you do these things, you have to realise that it can really affect future opportunities for people. I think that's one thing people should think about when they commit to these things. Rooney probably never had a say in that documentary; it was probably done before he signed for Birmingham. I can't comment on his work. I never played with him, and I’ve never worked with him. He was a fantastic player. But obviously, it didn't look good."

Hamann's take echoes that of Rooney, who said Brady's remarks were "very unfair", especially as the American doesn't know football like he does. Ultimately, the Manchester United legend has been sacked at Birmingham and Plymouth Argyle, and that is more telling than Brady's criticism. He may find it hard to get a new managerial job, and that is down to his lack of success in the dugout.

Amid the backlash over Brady's observation, his Birmingham team - who drew their season opener with Ipswich Town - return to Championship action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Blackburn Rovers.
