Trouble in paradise? Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney in bitter row with Wrexham residents over ‘brutal’ plans to build multi-million pound youth academy

Reynolds and McElhenney are reaching even deeper into their pockets to try and fund a new and improved youth academy to aid the progression of the men's team up the football pyramid. But the Hollywood stars are facing backlash from residents for the "brutal" appearance of the scheme and locals have concerns about building on green land as well as increased light and noise pollution, per Wales Online. A decision on planning permissions is set to be made next week after nine rejection letters were sent to the council.

A summary of the letters sent to the council says: "The brutal commercial and industrial appearance is not in keeping with the proposed location within the green wedge. The development goes against planning policy advice in regards to the green wedge. The school will lose the use of some athletic practice areas as a result of the proposal. The development is retrospective and the council should have made them stop work until the application was determined. The development brings no benefit to the Rossett community."

The newest proposal put forward by Wrexham is all part of their plan to achieve the ultimate goal - gaining promotion to the Premier League. Reynolds and McElhenney have spoken previously of their frustrations when it comes to UK planning permission laws but if they can prove their project will benefit the wider community, they will likely be able to continue growing Wrexham as a franchise across the world.

While the owners wait for news of a decision, the focus is fully on the men's team and their bid for promotion into the Championship. After beating Lincoln 1-0 on Tuesday, the Red Dragons can rest until Tuesday when they host Barnsley.
