  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After winning the National League just over a year ago, Wrexham backed that up with promotion to League One last month. Former Luton star Lee, who played for the Hatters between 2017-22, says there are a lot of similarities with his old employers and the Welsh club's rise up the leagues. While he didn't go as far as saying the Red Dragons would repeat Luton's journey from non league to the Premier League, he said their strong foundations and a great culture are certainly helping Wrexham at present.

    WHAT ELLIOT LEE SAID

He told Leader Live: "You don't get ahead of yourself. The club has the potential to go all the way with the backing from the owners, the group of players we have now, and the staff. I have always said it reminds me of Luton. You get a great environment for people to come and work in every day, come in with a smile on their face and work hard, great staff, great players, great people around the club and owners, then special things can happen. I have said that in all my time I have been here. It's exactly what we had at Luton and look at them now in the Premier League. I'm not saying we will be in the Premier League any time soon but we have got all the foundations to be a really successful club. I love being here, it is incredible to be here, it is a club like no other with the owners, the people that come and watch us, and the support we have worldwide. It comes with a pressure but it's a pressure all the lads have handled so well. We know the ambition of the club and we know the club is only going one way."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham owners Reynolds and McElhenney have repeatedly said they want to take the Welsh outfit to the Premier League one day but the hardest part of that goal is yet to come. However, with players like Lee, they may have a shot of climbing another rung up the ladder - this time to the Championship.
