    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club and Ittihad Tanger played out to a 2-2 draw in the Saturday Botola Pro League match held at Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

Ismail Moutaraji gracefully kicked off the scoring for the Red Castle, beautifully finding the back of the net in the 31st minute.

As Mokwena's side seemed poised to head into the halftime break with the advantage, Faouzi Abdoul Mutalib levelled the score for Tanger just before the half-time was blown.

The visitors took the lead when Mohamed Saoud converted from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute. Nonetheless, a late goal from Sisi Amar Bouna just six minutes before the final whistle, secured an important point for Mokwena's team at home.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wydad's Saturday outcome prevented the Red Castle from securing two consecutive wins following their crucial 1-0 victory against FUS Rabat last Sunday.

Mokwena's team is currently in fifth place in the Botola Pro League standings, having won four games, drawn three, and lost three.

Wydad trail the log leaders, RS Berkane, by five points. As the league table begins to shape up, it will be crucial for Mokwena and his team to secure maximum points in the upcoming games.

They are aiming to secure a spot in the Caf Champions League next season, having missed out on this year's edition.

WHAT NEXT FOR MOKWENA & WYDAD?

Wydad's management appears to fully support Mokwena despite the team's slow start to the season. Hence, Mokwena's job looks safe for now.

The Soweto-born mentor and his troops will have the opportunity to regroup during the upcoming international break.
