    WHAT HAPPENED?

Gyokeres is the talk of the town this season as the Sporting striker has gotten off to a rapid start for Ruben Amorim's side. The Swede has scored 23 goals in just 15 matches in all competitions including a hattrick against Manchester City earlier this week in Sporting's 4-1 win over the Premier League juggernaut. Meanwhile, in Spain, Real Madrid's Galacticos signing Mbappe has been struggling as the number nine in Carlo Ancelotti's setup. O'Hara has suggested that Real Madrid should look to sign Gyokeres to unlock the underperforming squad.

    WHAT O'HARA SAID

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, O'Hara said: “Any club in the world would take Viktor Gyokeres right now. He might end up at Real Madrid – they really need a centre-forward at the moment. They’ve signed Kylian Mbappe from PSG and he’s just not doing the business for them up front. They’ve fallen off a lot this season.

“I think Gyokeres plays like Erling Haaland. He’s strong, physical, athletic and knows where the net is. He’s got no fear in taking in defenders 1v1 – I like him a lot. He could go anywhere in Europe with the goals he’s scoring at the moment.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Gyokeres has been linked with an exit from Sporting in January with a number of Premier League sides linked with the former Brighton and Coventry City. Manchester United are one of those clubs as Amorim is set to take over the underperforming Red Devils later this month.

Speaking about United, O'Hara said: “You look at Ruben Amorim going to Manchester United and think whether they could sign him or not, but they’ve got Rasmus Højlund up front. Højlund needs to improve though or else they may look to bring him in too! He’ll be on everyone’s radar, though. I can’t believe Brighton got rid of him for a million quid – everyone talks about them getting it right all the time with their recruitment, but they got that one wrong! He’s top drawer – fair play to the lad.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR GYOKERES AND REAL MADRID?

Los Blancos are likely not going to consider signing Gyokeres as they will want to see Mbappe succeed at Santiago Bernabeu rather than spend money senselessly. However, if their struggles continue they may look to make a change to their squad in the future.
