Real Madrid enter race for Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong

Real Madrid are considering a move for Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong as they are ready to abandon their policy of not making any January signings due to Dani Carvajal's injury, with Carlo Ancelotti desperate to add some fresh blood to their defence.

Real Madrid are by no means the only club interested in signing the right-back, though, as Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle are all closely monitoring the 18-year-old's situation.

Chelsea, meanwhile, seemingly have no intention of cashing in on the young defender because he is part of their plans for the future.

Acheampong, born on May 5, 2006, fits Madrid's policy of signing young players with potential, similar to the cases of Brazilian superstars Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Endrick.

The versatile defender made his debut in the Premier League last season under Mauricio Pochettino, but currently plays for the Under-21 team in Premier League 2.

At the same time, the Real Madrid board are evaluating how to proceed on the potential signing of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with the Premier League giants ends on June 30, 2025.
