Rasmus Hojlund told he was 'lucky to be on the pitch' to score Man Utd's winner against Aston Villa as Paul Scholes reacts to £72m striker's first Premier League goal in 1026 minutes

Hojlund netted his first Premier League goal for the club with a late volley against Aston Villa, to give the Red Devils a remarkable 3-2 win, having been 2-0 down at half-time. However, Scholes believes he was fortunate to still be playing as he could have been substituted before Marcus Rashford took a knock.

United legend Scholes said to Premier League Productions: "He does get a little bit of luck with the goal. He’s lucky he’s on the pitch. But as Michael [Owen] said, I think it’s always best when you have not been scoring goals, to not have time about it and act on instinct. He has no time whatsoever [with the goal]. It happens in a flash of a second. The only thing he is thinking about is the far corner, it’s the only place he can score. Look, I’m so happy for the lad. It’s been a tough start to his Premier League career. Hopefully he can get up and running and score the goals he deserves to score."

United's win has relieved some of the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, who had overseen a Champions League elimination and a run of three winless games before the victory over Villa. Hojlund, too, will have felt an immense weight lifted from his shoulders, and he has spoken of being the "happiest man alive" after his goal.

There is a swift turnaround in fixtures for the Red Devils, as they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Ten Hag's side are currently sixth in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification.
