Rashford joins the 100 club: Man Utd striker’s top 10 goals ranked

Marcus Rashford scored his 100th goal for Manchester United in style on Sunday, stealing in behind Thilo Kehrer to nod home a beautiful Christian Eriksen cross at the back post.

The 38th-minute effort ultimately gave United a crucial 1-0 victory to boost their top-four hopes, and capped another impressive performance from a resurgent Rashford.

The striker, who turned 25 on Monday, has rediscovered his best form under Erik ten Hag this season, and has now cemented his place in the club's hall of fame by becoming their latest goalscoring centurion.

Wayne Rooney's record (253) may still seem out of reach, but Rashford is the second-most prolific player in United's current squad, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (144), and he has plenty of time to climb the all-time rankings.

Rashford already boasts a whole host of memorable strikes from his 318 appearances in a United shirt, and GOAL is here to run down his top 10 goals...

Rashford announced himself to English football fans with a two-goal showing on his senior debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, and made his Premier League bow three days later against Arsenal.

The 18-year-old proved he could also deliver on the top-flight stage as he opened the scoring in the 29th minute, showing great composure to steer home a first-time shot after reacting quickest to a mishit clearance from Gabriel Paulista.

Rashford doubled his account three minutes later and United went on to win 3-2, with the Old Trafford faithful welcoming a new hero into their hearts.

United may not have won their last piece of silverware, the 2016-17 Europa League, had it not been for Rashford's extra-time goal in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Anderlecht.

With penalties looming large on the horizon, Rashford controlled a Marouane Fellaini knockdown just inside the box, before producing a neat flick to manufacture himself a yard of space.

The forward deceived two Anderlecht defenders with his quick thinking and made no mistake with his subsequent finish, which nestled into the bottom of the net to send United through to the last four.

    8Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd (January 2019)

Rashford's 44th-minute effort proved to be the difference between United and Spurs in a clash staged at Wembley before the home side's move to their luxury new stadium.

It was a trademark finish that showcased all of the England international's best attributes as he latched onto a superb long pass from Paul Pogba and sped clear of Jan Vertonghen before rifling the ball into the far corner.

Rashford still had plenty to do after making his way into the box, but his shot from a tight angle was so perfectly placed that it left Hugo Lloris with no chance in the Spurs net.

    7Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool (March 2018)

Rashford had struggled for regular minutes for much of the 2017-18 season under Jose Mourinho, but was handed his first start in three months for Liverpool's visit to Old Trafford.

The England international needed to make an impact to put himself back into Gareth Southgate's thoughts for the summer World Cup in Russia, and to ensure that United kept their rivals at bay in the race for second place in the Premier League.

He delivered in emphatic fashion, scoring twice to give Mourinho's side a crucial three points, and his first goal was a thing of beauty.

Romelu Lukaku provided the assist as he headed on a David de Gea free-kick, which Rashford took in his stride before producing a clever chop turn in the box to get past Trent Alexander-Arnold and open up the shot, which he smashed across Loris Karius and into far right of the net.

    6Celta Vigo 0-1 Man Utd (May 2017)

Rashford wasn't well known for his set-piece prowess in the early stages of his career, but that all changed after his stunning contribution during United's Europa League semi-final win over Celta Vigo.

Just like in the quarter-finals, United were in dire need of inspiration heading into the last 30 minutes of the first leg of the tie in Spain, and Rashford obliged once more as he stepped up to take a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The angle favoured a left-footer, but the United star managed to generate such devastating power and whip that he was still able to find his mark and finally get past the seemingly unbeatable Celta keeper Sergio Alvarez, who couldn't get near the shot even at full stretch.

    5PSG 1-2 Man Utd (October 2020)

United were drawn against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020-21 Champions League group stage, some 18 months after their titanic last-16 meeting.

Rashford was the hero in the second leg of the 2018-19 tie as his late penalty completed an unlikely turnaround, and he came back to haunt the French giants at Parc des Princes once again.

This time his winning goal came from open play with just three minutes left on the clock, as he glided past Danilo Pereira before unleashing a fierce drive that rocketed past Keylor Navas and went in off the post.

  • Rashford-Man-Utd-City-2016Getty

    4Man City 0-1 Man Utd (March 2016)

Rashford became the youngest player to score in a Manchester derby for United at just 18 years and 141 days when he struck against City in 2015-16.

It was no ordinary goal either, with the teenager embarrassing Martin Demichelis with a sudden burst of pace that saw him drive into the City penalty area and into a one-on-one showdown against Joe Hart.

That contest also proved to be a mismatch as Rashford slotted the ball past the England keeper with aplomb before wheeling away to celebrate in front of a stunned City fanbase.

    3Chelsea 1-2 Man Utd (October 2019)

The next entry may not be the most important on this list, but it is certainly the most spectacular.

You'd have been forgiven for thinking that Rashford was out of his mind when he stood over a 30-yard free-kick with the intention of going for goal in United's League Cup fifth-round clash with Chelsea.

However, he was able to silence the Stamford Bridge crowd with a Ronaldo-esque strike that dipped and swerved like a demon on its way past Willy Caballero, who only attempted to dive after the ball had hit the top corner of the net.

  • Rashford-Alisson-Man-Utd-LiverpoolGetty

    2Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool (August 2022)

United came into their most recent clash with age-old foes Liverpool on the back of a humiliating 4-0 defeat at Brentford, which left Ten Hag with no points from his first two games in charge.

Another loss would have been catastrophic for the Red Devils, but they were able to raise their game against Jurgen Klopp's side, with Rashford netting the decisive goal shortly after the half-time interval.

Rashford, too, was looking for redemption after a poor 2021-22 campaign, and he showed that class is permanent when he raced onto an Anthony Martial pass on the break and smashed the ball in at Alisson's near post after giving him the eyes.

There was a suspicion that he had been offside, but VAR waved away Liverpool appeals and allowed the goal to stand, which kick-started Rashford and United's revival this season.

  • Rashford-Man-Utd-Brighton-2020Getty

    1Brighton 2-3 Man Utd (September 2020)

This Premier League match-up is mainly remembered for Bruno Fernandes' 100th-minute winner from the penalty spot, which was given by the referee after he had already blown his final whistle.

However, Rashford undoubtedly provided the contest's purist moment of brilliance with his 55th-minute goal, which came after he was picked out by Fernandes on the left wing as United launched a counter.

To put it bluntly, Rashford made a fool out of Ben White as he cut inside and left the defender on the floor twice with a couple of well-executed dummies, before then finding the net with an emphatic finish that was helped in via a deflection off Lewis Dunk.

This was Rashford at his scintillating best.
