  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The 67-year-old had a routine ankle operation in June but subsequently picked up an infection after the wound became seriously inflamed, according to Bild. Rangnick was then hospitalised again and underwent further surgery. The second operation was successful and Rangnick is now on the road to recovery.

    Rangnick will hope to return to work once he has completely recovered from his recent hospitalisation. The former Manchester United coach is currently the manager of the Austria national team and is hoping to guide the side to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Rangnick's team have won their first two group games in Group H.

    Austrian FA spokesman Thomas Trukesitz said: "Ralf Rangnick is doing well. Nobody needs to have any concerns about his health."

    WHAT NEXT FOR RANGNICK?

    Rangnick is still expected to take charge of Austria in September when World Cup qualifying resumes. Austria face Cyprus on September 6 and then take on Bosnia and Herzegovina three days later.
