BackpageThe Premier Soccer League has announced that it has postponed this season's award ceremony due to Mamelodi Sundowns' participation in Caf Champions League and Fifa Club World Cup tournament.
Traditionally, this ceremony has always been held in June when the PSL season concludes, but Masandawana's upcoming assignments have influenced the decision to postpone it.
Backpage"In recent seasons, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards Ceremony has traditionally been held during the month of June," PSL announced on Tuesday.
"However, due to Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club’s participation in both the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2024/25 CAF Champions League Final, the League has taken the decision to postpone this season’s PSL Awards Ceremony.
"The PSL, its member clubs, and all stakeholders in professional football across the country are united in their support for Mamelodi Sundowns as they fly the flag for South African football at these prestigious events," it added.
"The League will communicate the new date and further details of the Awards Ceremony in due course."
BackpageAfter winning the Premier Soccer League title, Sundowns' focus shifted to another equally, if not more, important assignment: the Champions League's two-legged final.
In search of their second continental star, the Tshwane giants are set to face Pyramids of Egypt.
Given that they defended the PSL title, some of their stars are expected to dominate the winning list of the PSL's season-end awards too.
Lucas Ribeiro, the current PSL top scorer, is a prime candidate to scoop the Player of the Season award. His head coach, Miguel Cardoso, is a top candidate for the Coach of the Season award.
BackpageMasandawana will host Pyramids for the Champions League first leg in Pretoria on May 24 before the second leg on June 1 in Cairo.
After the continental campaign, the Tshwane giants will focus on the Fifa Club World Cup tournament that will start on June 18. They are in Group F and will face Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense from Brazil, and Ulsan HD from South Korea.
