Orlando Pirates linked with unearthing another teenage sensation after signing the 'next Relebohile Mofokeng'

Orlando Pirates have reportedly identified 16-year-old defender Junior Phiri as one of their next new signings.

This comes after the Soweto giants recently brought in 17-year-old attacker Rethabile Ramontoeli, who is dubbed 'the new Relebohile Mofokeng.'

Phiri is currently with Kagiso Sports School of Excellence, and the academy's chairman, Kagiso Nkoana, comments on the player's potential.

“He’s certainly one of our brightest prospects," said Nkoana.

"We have received numerous inquiries about him. And we’re considering this as we aim to foster his development. We believe he possesses the qualities to advance and become a top defender.”

Outgoing Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is a firm believer in young players after giving chances to the likes of Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and others.

It is to be seen if the incoming coach will buy into the idea of signing Phiri and promoting youngsters from the reserve team.

PSL teams have started preparing for next season, and clubs have been identifying players they need.

It is to be seen if Pirates will make sure Phiri will be in their squad for next season.
