Kaizer Chiefs will face Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in a semi-final staged at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

After going down to Teboho Mokoena's goal, the Soweto giants fought back, equalized through Wandile Duba, and scored the winning goal through Ashley Du Preez late in the second half.

Meanwhile, Chiefs came close to breaking the deadlock in the third minute, but Sundowns' Bathusi Aubaas made a critical block to deny Duba of Amakhosi.

Iqraam Rayners, who had been flagged down for offside in the second minute, forced Chiefs' Bruce Bvuma to make a big save in the 23rd minute with an effort struck from the left flank.

In the 32nd minute, it was Ronwen Williams' time to save his side. Gaston Sirino, after receiving the ball from a distance, looked at the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper before he launched a long-range shot, but the goalkeeper was alert and cleared the danger.

Bvuma was finally beaten when Teboho Mokoena found the back of the net with a precisely taken free kick in the fifth minute of added time. The Chiefs' goalkeeper had little chance to stop this one as the hosts took the lead.

Chiefs fought back and equalised in the 57th minute. Duba, who was pausing threat after threat on Downs' defence, finally scored after he intercepted the ball and fired it past Williams.

The big moment for Kaizer Chiefs came when Ashley Du Preez, who replaced Duba, scored to give Amakhosi the lead in the 89th minute.

    THE MVP

Nasreddine Nabi should be very elated about this result. After a string of poor results, his charges delivered when it mattered most; they beat an otherwise impressive Downs to book a date in the final.

Pressure has been building up on Nabi's shoulders, and now he has a huge chance of proving critics wrong by going all the way and winning a trophy in his debut season at Naturena.

    THE BIG LOSER

After an impressive campaign in the Premier Soccer League and in the Caf Champions League so far, Sundowns' campaign in the cup has come to an end.

Their dream of winning a season treble is over, and now they must fight tooth and nail to win the other trophies.
