BackpageNinth place? Kaizer Chiefs' Jessica Motaung makes a bold promise - 'We cannot find ourselves there again'
BackpageWHAT HAPPENED?
Kaizer Chiefs marketing and commercial director Jessica Motaung has promised that the Premier Soccer League side will never finish in ninth or tenth place again.
She also touched on Chiefs' transfer market and said, despite the stiff competition in the market, the club will get the players that will help Amakhosi achieve its goals.

"The market is competitive, and we have to be honest and say that the market is competitive. We have always been able to get players of stature, and that is something that we are doing all the time," Motaung told KickOff.
"I know that the guys are working very hard behind the scenes to make that happen. Ninth and tenth place is not great for us, and that is part of the difficult conversation that we had to have," she added.
"We cannot find ourselves there again."

She also appreciated the players for what they have done despite the challenges they experienced.
"We have to be fair in that there are always challenges for players, but I’m grateful for the players who have dedicated themselves to the Chiefs from the past and present. For me, I would say at Chiefs we work as a team, and we must be honest about the fact that sometimes things work out and at times they don’t," Motaung stated.
"I think the guys on the technical side are working very hard, and they have the support of the board and the chairman and all of us, even on the marketing side," she added.
"It is just now that we have had a period of challenges, and it is great that we have won the Nedbank Cup.
"We need to be careful in saying we didn’t have good players when those players won us the Nedbank Cup. We need to be grateful for the work that has been done, but certainly we are continuing to look at getting the right players."

Chiefs struggled in the PSL, finished ninth, and missed the chance to appear in the MTN8.
Although they struggled in the PSL front, Nasreddine Nabi, despite pressure, delivered the Nedbank Cup, ending a decade-long wait for trophies at Naturena.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
Currently, the big question in Chiefs fans' minds is what players the club will sign in order to achieve what Motaung promised.
They have organised a pre-season trip to the Netherlands, where they will sharpen themselves before the 2025/26 season begins.
