Nigeria have been eliminated from CHAN following their 4-0 loss against Sudan in the Group D game played on Tuesday night at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

The Super Eagles thought they had taken the lead in the 22nd minute courtesy of Anthony Ijoma, but after a VAR check, it was ruled out for offside.

Against the run of play, Sudan took the lead in the 25th minute through an own goal from Leonard Ngenge, who was desperately trying to clear the ball after the initial effort by the opponents hit the crossbar.

With two minutes to the break, Ngenge, once again, made a blunder by handling the ball in the danger zone, allowing Khidir Walieldin to make it 2-0.

After the break, the Eastern African nation then added their third goal, in the 55th minute, when Hussein Musa fed Abdelrazic Omer Yagoub in the area and the latter did well to find the back of the net to make it 3-0.

It got worse for Nigeria in the 62nd minute as Yagoub added his second to kill the Super Eagles' hope of making a comeback.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nigeria started their campaign with a 1-0 loss against the defending champions, Senegal.

To stand a chance of making it past their pool, which had four teams as opposed to the others that had five, the Super Eagles needed to win against Sudan and Congo, respectively.

However, it seems the task was massive for the West Africans who are now out of the competition.

    TELL ME MORE

After two games played by all teams in Group D, Nigeria are the only ones without a chance of making it to the quarter final.

Sudan and Senegal are on four points each following their win and draw in the initial two games, while Congo have two points after as many draws.

Nigeria are at the bottom with nothing.
