MLS legend Sebastian Giovinco joins Toronto FC front office as club ambassador

Toronto FC legend Sebastian Giovinco has returned to the club in a new front office role, the team announced Saturday. The Italian's role will revolve around "player evaluation, development, identification, and recruitment, supporting TFC's general manager and head of scouting," the team said in a statement.In addition, he will serve as a club ambassador, representing Toronto FC in the community.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"I am excited to return to Toronto FC, this time, in a new role to help the team off the field," said Giovinco. "This club holds so many great memories for me, and I'm proud to be part of this organization again. Toronto has always been home to me and my family."During his time with TFC, Giovinco made 142 appearances, scoring 83 goals and recording 64 assists across all competitions. He joined the Canadian side in 2015, and in his inaugural year, was named MLS MVP.In 2017, he was part of the roster that became the first-ever MLS side to record the domestic treble, winning MLS Cup, the Canadian Championship and the MLS Supporters' Shield.In addition, his accolades in MLS include two Canadian Championships in 2016 and 2018, two Eastern Conference Championships in 2016 and 2017, and a berth in the final of the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League.In addition to his 2015 MVP award, Giovinco earned the MLS Golden Boot and was named Newcomer of the Year in 2015. Across his time with TFC, he was named to the MLS Best XI three times, was an MLS All-Star four times, was winner of the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League Golden Ball and was named to both the Champions League Best XI in the same season.

TFC are in the middle of a playoff push as they end their 2024 MLS campaign. They host 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield champions Inter Miami and Lionel Messi Saturday afternoon.
