    WHAT HAPPENED?

South Africa beat Uganda 2-0 on Friday afternoon to top Group K of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

Thapelo Morena was on target alongside Orlando Pirates' Patrick Maswanganyi who controlled a nice pass from Iqraam Rayners before beating Ismael Watenga in the Cranes' goal.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Maswanganyi has been a hit at Orlando Pirates and many South Africans feel he can fit into the huge shoes of the aging Themba Zwane.

The latter missed the game against Cranes due to the injury he sustained in the initial game against Congo Brazzaville.

The Orlando Pirates star was introduced later in the second half and went on to put on a decent show.

In his analysis on SABC, Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has now challenged Tito to emulate Mshishi and make an impact at Bafana Bafana.

    WHAT KHUNE SAID

"Themba Zwane is surely going to be missed but I think Tito must also raise his hand, and emulate what Themba Zwane has done," the 37-year-old said.

"Yes there can only be one Themba Zwane, there can only be one Tito, but when given the opportunity, deliver, which he did exactly that today. What I liked about Tito [when he came on], he read the game.

"As soon as he played that ball to Rayners, he made a late run into the box and no defender was expecting that to happen. But again, let’s give him [credit] for his composure and his finish, it’s not easy for a goalkeeper to come across from his near-post, to go close the far post, and still go back to his first post," he added.

"Credit to Tito, for beating the defender, his composure in the box, and hitting the ball across the goalkeeper’s body."

    WHAT NEXT?

Bafana Bafana will be aiming at getting another win on Tuesday against South Sudan to finish as the group winners.

The likes of Maswanganyi might start the match, and the Bucs midfielder will have to capitalise on the opportunity given to prove to Broos that he can deliver.
