Liverpool 'hold talks' with Ajax over transfer for Dutch wonderkid

Liverpool are interested in signing defender Hato and have held talks with Ajax over a potential deal this summer. Duncan Castles told The Transfers Podcast that the Dutch giants are open to selling the teenager, who has already been capped six times by the Netherlands.

Hato has become a mainstay in the Ajax team since making his senior debut in January 2023, wracking up 124 appearances while still a teenager. He scored twice and contributed six assists in 31 Eredivisie matches last season and has been playing at centre-back during the Netherlands Under-21s' European Championship campaign.

Hato's arrival would help Liverpool fill the void set to be left by Jarell Quansah. The England international is close to leaving Anfield to sign for Bayer Leverkusen.

It's set to be a busy few days for Liverpool. The deal for Florian Wirtz is expected to be announced imminently, while Milos Kerkez is also close to arriving on Merseyside in a move from Bournemouth.
